AIEEE 2012 (Offline) 29th April Code AQuestion 1
If the lines $\frac{x-1}{2}=\frac{y+1}{3}=\frac{z-1}{4}$ and $\frac{x-3}{1}=\frac{y-k}{2}=\frac z1$ intersect, then $k$ is equal to :

Solution

Equate $(1+2s,-1+3s,1+4s)=(3+t,k+2t,t)$: $1+4s=t$ and $1+2s=3+t$ give $s=-\tfrac32$, $t=-5$; then $-1+3s=k+2t$ gives $k=\tfrac92$.
